ted Learning was approached by Central and Cecil to support them at their Leadership Team Conference delivering an interactive theatre-based session around Bullying and Harassment.
Since Mrs Chesterton founded their organisation 89 years ago to provide refuge to homeless young women, Central and Cecil have continued to offer inspirational, person-centered care and support to vulnerable people, including:
  • frail older people who require personal care or care with nursing
  • people living with dementia
  • active older people living in sheltered and extra care housing
  • people with mental health support needs
Today, they are the housing provider “where inspiration lives”. They aim to be inspirational in everything they do and promise their residents and service users the very best service.

The Brief

Our overall objective was to deliver a fun and engaging session to the 46 Managers and Leaders which covered
  • Defining Bullying and Harassment in the workplace
  • Recognising bullying behaviour in yourself and others
  • Having an awareness of the impact of Bullying on individuals and Central and Cecil
We showed various scenarios with our 2 actors that demonstrated bullying taking place. The delegates came up with advice and recommendations for the characters and shared best practice around dealing with bullying and offensive behaviour. Our trainer included skills input around bullying, inclusion and diversity and explored the impact the behaviours observed had. We bought comedy, humour and fun to the session which was well appreciated considering the sensitivity and seriousness of the topic. People left having learned lots, and all gave a pledge as to how they would move forward, putting their newly learned skills into practice The feedback was phenomenal – 80% of learners said the session was excellent and 20% said it was good.

Our training is observational and participative, using teams of actors to bring it to life. We recognise that taking part in role-play is not for everyone, so we offer observational training – this is where two of our acting team demonstrate scenes related to the course and delegates observe and comment on the behaviors. Where a business is more confident working with actors, we take this to the next level with participative training so delegates get to practice their newly learnt skills.
