LET'S TALK ABOUT brave conversations.

This full day, interactive workshop is designed to help managers to develop their communication skills to feel more confident at handling difficult conversations effectively to achieve positive outcomes

why come on the course?

Do you find that what you say is sometimes misinterpreted by others, or people don’t do what you’ve asked them to?

Do you shy away from giving difficult feedback or having conversations that might provoke a negative response?

Do you sometimes wonder why you bothered having the conversation in the first place?

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, then this course is definitely for you.

What is it?

A highly interactive session with an expert communication skills trainer and 2 professional actors.

You will observe our actors in various scenarios where poor communication results in an escalating conversation and use this context to understand how recognised approaches would lead to a more successful outcome.

Later you’ll have the opportunity to practice your own brave conversations in a safe and confidential environment.

What will I do on the day?

Through lots of practical activities and discussion, our trainer will explore effective communication skills and behaviours, supporting their application to difficult conversations.

You’ll learn how use active listening, questioning, transactional analysis and engaging positive language to give you the confidence to conduct brave conversations successfully.

embedding the learning.

This course is delivered using observational theatre based learning. Our actors perform a number of work based scenarios based on difficult conversations.

We observe as the Manager gets it wrong or doesn't get the reaction/response they were expecting and examine how the situation could have been handled differently.

Learners have the opportunity to direct the action and give feedback and suggestions to the actor playing the Manager so we can see what best practice looks like.

Some faq's about Brave Conversations Training.

0.1 What is Theatre based learning?

Theatre Based Learning is the technique we use to bring learning to life by using our actors to perform scenarios, based on real case studies.

Theatre Based Learning can be either observational (where learners watch scenes and discuss) OR participative (where we use techniques like real-play and practice, forum where learners interact with the actors and direct them or hot-seating where learners give feedback to individual characters and make suggestions).

0.2What are the benefits of Brave Conversations training?
Managers who are better skilled at tackling difficult conversations will ensure that issues get resolved or dealt with far quicker. Often as humans we do everything possible to avoid what we perceive as conflict and this course enables us to the see the impact of having these conversation and also the risks if we ignore.

video showcase.

Discussing and learning in the traditional ‘class-room’ is effective, but long-term memory is better stimulated by having an experience. Our approach using experiential and drama based methods delivers this and leads to more sustained learning.

theatre of learning delivering sustained blended learning.

Our training is observational and participative, using teams of actors to bring it to life. We recognise that taking part in role-play is not for everyone, so we offer observational training – this is where two of our acting team demonstrate scenes related to the course and delegates observe and comment on the behaviors. Where a business is more confident working with actors, we take this to the next level with participative training so delegates get to practice their newly learnt skills.
