Interview

Amy Barnes was born in Yorkshire, England. After gaining a BA in English, Drama and Education at Cambridge University, Amy had a brief stint in production, working on BAFTA winning online drama KateModern, before becoming an actor. She has worked at the National Theatre in London, appeared on TV shows such as Holby City, and performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival twice. Amy trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating in 2015.  Amy  loves the unexpected – never knowing how a learner will react – it’s all so exciting!

How long have you been working as an actor?

16 years

And what do you love most about it?

I love the unexpected – never knowing how a viewer will react, whether someone will drop the ball, how another actor might react, what might make someone laugh – it’s all so exciting!

What acting work are you most proud of?

I have loved the TV work I’ve done for the quick turnaround, the snazzy tech and the feeling you’re creating a whole little world on screen, but I’ve also loved the theatre work I’ve done as it’s felt like proper craft and graft, and the connection with the audience is magic.

What does she like?

Great delivery by all which gave a great visual understanding on how to approach an appraisal / 1-2-1 / or just providing feedback via various scenarios acted out during the training. The SIAD tool will be really beneficial to me personally and it is something is i will be using regularly going forward.
